Registered Charity No: 1159690 (England & Wales).
The HSA is unique; it is the only charity working exclusively to improve food animal welfare during marketing, transport and slaughter. For over 100 years its specialist technical staff have worked to ensure that the best welfare standards are developed and used for the care of food animals after they leave the farm. The HSA concerns itself with the care of a vast range of food animals, from cattle to crustacea.
The charity takes a practical approach, providing constructive advice, educational videos, publications and training for those involved in livestock handling and slaughter, whether they be road hauliers, market workers, slaughterhouse staff, retailers or agricultural and veterinary students.
As well as practical training, an important part of the HSA’s work is in encouraging the development of systems and equipment that will improve animal welfare. To this end, two award schemes are run each year and grants are made in support of projects which the charity feels will lead to worthwhile improvements within its field of work.
Please support the HSA’s work. The HSA relies on legacies and donations. By remembering the HSA in your Will, you can make a lasting and practical contribution to the welfare of food animals.
