Colin Hunter has attended Day Hospice at Florence Nightingale Hospice weekly for two years, and has also been in the In-Patient Unit for respite care every eight to twelve weeks. Battling his long-term terminal illness brought home to him and his wife Denise how important it was for him to get everything organised, including his Will - and how much he wanted to ensure he could give something back to Florence Nightingale Hospice.

“I had a long talk with Denise and I’ve rearranged my Will,” Colin explains. “I got my solicitor round, and I said I want to leave the Hospice 20%. He said, “Well, that’s a lot! Why are you doing that?””
“To me it’s payback. It really is. Because what they’ve done for me there, nothing, honestly, nothing is too much trouble for them. I’m so, so grateful for all the girls there.”

Colin’s wife Denise agrees. “Nobody knows, from the smallest to the greatest, when they’re going to need that service,” she says. “People assume the Hospice is funded by the NHS. They think, well if they only go in there to die, what do they need funds for? They don’t understand the whole thing.”

If you can leave a gift to Florence Nightingale Hospice Charity, you will enable the Hospice to help patients with life-limiting illness learn to live with their illness, and to care for and support them and their families at the end of life.
