A Legacy for Learning

The British Academy, established by Royal Charter in 1902, is the UK's national academy for the humanities and social sciences. It is an independent, self-governing Fellowship of leading national and international scholars.

The Academy fosters and promotes the highest standards of learning. As well as providing grants for a wide range of research, the Academy also helps build relations between researchers in the UK and overseas, and celebrates outstanding academic achievements through prizes and fellowships. With an ongoing programme of public events, symposia and publications we work hard to share knowledge and ideas across a wide range of subjects and to bring to new thinking to key issues of the present day.

The British Academy is a UK registered charity which receives public support and private funding through the generosity of like-minded benefactors. By leaving a gift to the Academy, you can join with us in building new educational opportunities and support our next generation of scholars and scholarship. If you would like to know more about our work and how your legacy can make a difference, please do contact us.
